We have evidence of clothing utilized by Homo Sapiens since the beginning of human history. Most early, pre-Ice Age humans utilized vegetation, wood, hides, and furs to cover their bodies. Humans, Homo Sapiens began habitation and occupation all around the globe, and were dominant during the Ice Ages. They survived two Ice Ages, while the last Ice Age was an extinction level event for most, if not all, megafauna. Clothing was essential to survival especially during the ice ages. The first clothing was basic, loose-fitting, rudimentary, and often were simply animal hides. According to Anthropologist Brian Fagan, around 30,000 B.P. humans created the needle. The first of which were carved from bone or ivory with tiny eyes bored through with a flint drill that allowed for the manufacture of tight-fitting clothing tailored to the individual. The adding of layers of hides and materials provided effective protection from the glacial cold assisting humans in surviving the ice ages.
