Turtle Skull & Bone Lot, Species Unknown – Natural Skull with Clawed Foot 14 Pcs

Description

A small natural turtle bone lot: internal bones only, no shell. It was probably found in the woods of Oregon or Colorado during a survey, and it is naturally sun-dried with very little cleaning done. Species unknown; sold simply as a turtle skull and bone lot.

This is an aged specimen. The skull is cream to tan with dark soil spotting, short and rounded, with large eye sockets and the lower jaw missing. It is still joined by a strand of mummified, dried tissue to a clawed foot, with a small bone caught in the tissue between them. The loose bones include the classic V- or L-shaped turtle shoulder bone, several hourglass- and club-shaped limb and girdle bones (one still wrapped in dried tissue), and small vertebra and girdle pieces. The photos show the whole lot laid out from several angles, then close-ups of the skull from the side, front and top, and held in hand for scale.
